Alan D. Segars, CFA – Chief Investment Officer
Alan Segars is Beacon Trust’s chief investment officer. He has worked in the financial industry for more than 30 years.

Mr. Segars leads and manages Beacon’s investment policy. He makes investment recommendations and implements strategic plans – designing, articulating, supporting and directing investments to complement Beacon’s vision. He is the chief spokesperson on portfolio strategy, asset allocation and overall markets and the economy.

Previously, Mr. Segars was with ING Investment Management Company as a managing director and senior equity portfolio manager, and earlier, as a senior fixed-income portfolio manager. Prior to that, he was a managing partner with Grigsby Branford Capital Partners, as well as head of fixed-income management for Bank of New York.

Mr. Segars earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the City College of New York and a master’s degree with a concentration in finance and investments from Bernard M. Baruch College. He also is a CFA charterholder.
 

Spencer S. Marsh III, CFA, CIC, RIA – Senior Managing Director
Spencer Marsh is a senior managing director and manager of the Beacon Core Model.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Mr. Marsh served as managing director in the private client group at E.M. Warburg Pincus & Co, where he managed portfolios for high net worth individuals, foundations and profit-sharing accounts.

Mr. Marsh received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and received a master’s degree from New York University’s Graduate School of Business. Mr. Marsh is a chartered financial analyst (CFA), certified insurance counselor (CIC) and registered investment advisor (RIA).

 

Edward T. Tokar, CPA – Senior Managing Director
Edward Tokar is a senior managing director with 37 years of financial industry experience.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Mr. Tokar served as chief executive officer of Allied Capital Management, LLC as well as vice president of investments and corporate officer at Honeywell International, Inc. for 27 years.

During his tenure at Honeywell and its predecessor company, AlliedSignal, Inc., where he was responsible for more than $18 billion of employee benefit fund assets worldwide, his investment returns and leadership were nationally recognized for superior performance.

Mr. Tokar is a director of CH Energy Group and the Gabelli Dividend and Income Trust and Gabelli Global Deal Fund. Additionally, he has served as a director, trustee and advisory board member for numerous leading U.S. and international investment organizations, including DB Hedge Strategies, the Topiary Fund for Benefit Plan Investors, Levco Series Trust Mutual Funds, Investcorp Hedge Fund of Funds, RFE Investment Partners and Teton Advisors, Inc.

Mr. Tokar received a bachelor’s degree with high honors from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree from the College of William & Mary, where he continues to serve as Trustee Emeritus and is a member of the Mason Business School Foundation Board. He also is a certified public accountant (CPA).

 

Richard B. Cawthorne – Managing Director, Portfolio Manager
Richard Cawthorne is a managing director and portfolio manager with 50 years of financial industry experience.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, he was president and CEO of Furgueson Capital Management. In addition to managing accounts, he headed the firm’s Investment Policy Committee.

Earlier, Mr. Cawthorne was vice president and senior investment officer at Bankers Trust Company (now Deutsche Bank) for more than 30 years. While at the bank, Mr. Cawthorne was responsible for the core trust group that supervised portfolios of $4 billion of trust assets. He served as chairman of the Trust Investment Committee and personally managed $600 million of trust and advisory assets.

Mr. Cawthorne received bachelor’s degrees in economics and finance from Lehigh University. He formerly served as treasurer and director of the John Hart Hunter Educational Foundation, Inc. as well as treasurer and director of the Kappa Society, his national social fraternity. In addition, Mr. Cawthorne served as an advisor, finance chairman, and treasurer for his church and for his fraternity’s alumni board at Lehigh University.

 

Stephen R. Humphrey, CFA – Managing Director, Portfolio Manager
Stephen Humphrey is a managing director and portfolio manager. He has been in the financial industry for more than 35 years.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Mr. Humphrey was vice president and senior portfolio manager at BNY Mellon. He provided investment services for more than 70 high net worth trust, individual and non-profit clients and managed $300 million in assets using proprietary asset allocators and sub-asset allocation strategies.

Mr. Humphrey’s career as a portfolio manager began in 1975 at Heritage Chase Bank, where he managed 12 hospital self assurance fixed income relationships, managed a $250 million balanced fund and $150 million equity income fund. Through most of the 1990s, he managed a 5-star billion dollar large cap growth fund before joining Wachovia Bank as director and regional portfolio manager, where he managed 80 relationships greater than $5 million covering Red Bank, Pennington, Haddon, Summit and Glen Rock, NJ.

Mr. Humphrey received a bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore and a master’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology. He later earned a J.D. from Touro Law School. Mr. Humphrey is a CFA charterholder and a member of the New York State Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

 

William J. Cashin, CPA, CFA, CMT – Senior Vice President, Fixed Income Portfolio Manager
Mr. Cashin is senior vice president and fixed income portfolio manager. He has more than 40 years of experience in the financial industry.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Mr. Cashin was in institutional fixed-income sales at Citibank, Sanwa Securities and Barclays Capital. Previously, he was responsible for the daily management of Citibank’s taxable domestic investment portfolio, which included Treasury, agency and mortgage-backed securities, as well as financial futures. Mr. Cashin’s investment career began at General Motors, where he ran their liquidity portfolio.

Mr. Cashin has a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and received a master’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a certified public accountant (CPA), a CFA charterholder and a chartered market technician (CMT).

 

Maria Di Zio - Vice President, Portfolio Manager
Maria Di Zio is a vice president and portfolio manager responsible for portfolio restructuring and analysis, working with Beacon’s chief investment officer to create and manage asset allocation strategies for trust and high net worth clients. She has nearly 20 years of financial industry experience.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Ms. Di Zio was a vice president and portfolio manager at BNY Mellon Wealth Management in New York City for eight years, where she managed portfolios ranging from $2 million to $20 million for high net worth clients. Earlier, she was a vice president and portfolio manager covering individuals and institutions at Bank of America for 10 years. During that time, she also focused on money market fund management, fixed-income trading, credit analysis and institutional cash management.

Ms. Di Zio received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Rider University. She also completed the Central Atlantic School of Trust conducted by the Pennsylvania Bankers Association on the campus of Bucknell University.

 

Diane Allard - Vice President, Portfolio Manager
Diane Allard is a vice president and portfolio manager. She has worked in the financial industry for 18 years.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Ms. Allard was vice president and portfolio manager at TD Wealth for 10 years, where she managed investment portfolios for institutional and high net worth clients. She also managed a money market mutual fund complex at a predecessor organization of TD Wealth. Earlier in her career, she was head trader in the investment management division at Summit Bank, where she managed the trading desk and executed trades for clients’ portfolios and the bank’s proprietary mutual fund complex.

Ms. Allard received a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.

 

Joseph F. Healy, CFA – Research Manager
Joseph Healy is a research manager with more than 25 years of financial industry experience. He manages Beacon’s research team to ensure timely delivery of investment analysis and recommendations and works with Beacon’s chief investment officer on sector research, risk control and other strategic projects.

Mr. Healy has an extensive background in investment leadership and portfolio management. Prior to joining Beacon Trust, he was a director of research at Legg Mason in Baltimore, PNC Advisors in Philadelphia and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Healy received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from William Paterson University and a master’s degree in finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also is a CFA charterholder. In addition, Mr. Healy is a member of the Global Interdependence Center, CFA Institute, New York Society of Security Analysts, CFA Society of Philadelphia and the Baltimore CFA Society.

 

Linell T. Bigelow, Research Analyst
Linell Bigelow is a research analyst responsible for monitoring the energy, materials, industrials and healthcare sectors. She works with the research team to ensure timely delivery of investment analysis and recommendations, and also works with Beacon’s senior managing director to manage the Beacon Core Model.

Ms. Bigelow received a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from Cornell University. While pursuing her degree, she utilized an Engineering Learning Initiatives Grant to execute and manage a project involving heart valves. She also conducted research over two summers under the direction of a biomedical science professor.

 

Zoie Flaks – Portfolio Manager
Zoie Flaks is a portfolio manager responsible for portfolio restructuring and analysis, working with Beacon’s chief investment officer to create and manage asset allocation strategies for trust and high net worth clients.

Ms. Flaks joined Beacon Trust as a portfolio manager assistant in 2010. Prior to joining Beacon, she was an English teacher in Shenzhen, China, where she continued her Chinese language study.

Ms. Flaks received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan with a minor in Asian languages and cultures. She also completed a business internship program in Shanghai, China through Columbia University and a study abroad program in Europe through Syracuse University.

 

Andrew Massey, Research Analyst
Andrew Massey is a research analyst responsible for monitoring the technology and telecommunications sectors. He works with Beacon’s fixed income portfolio managers to provide ongoing research and analytical support.

Prior to joining Beacon Trust, Mr. Massey spent three consecutive summers at Massey, Quick & Co., where he supported daily trade reconciliations working under the director of manager research.

Mr. Massey received a bachelor’s degree in American studies with a minor in political science from Hobart College. He is a Hobart College Gold Class Alumni volunteer.

 

Julie Morris, Research Analyst
Julie Morris is a research analyst responsible for analyzing equities within the consumer discretionary, consumer staples, financial and utility sectors using quantitative and qualitative research methods. She works with Beacon’s portfolio managers to ensure timely delivery of stock analysis and trade recommendations, as well as analyzes exchange-traded funds for asset allocation models.

Ms. Morris received a bachelor’s degree in management from Lehigh University. She also is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
